HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC — Visitors to Hilton Head’s beaches this weekend reported seeing what appeared to be thousands of identical blue Shibumi Shades stretching from Coligny to Folly Field, prompting town officials to quietly recognize the fabric canopies as the island’s official flag.

“At this point, there are more Shibumis than sea oats,” said local lifeguard Tyler Jenkins. “I can’t even see the Westin anymore — it’s just a solid line of blue fabric flapping in the breeze.”

Residents noted the phenomenon has made it nearly impossible to distinguish one family from another. “I spent an hour looking for my group and finally just sat under the first Shibumi I found,” said Doug Henley of Dayton, Ohio. “Turns out it wasn’t ours, but the cooler was basically the same too.”

At press time, town officials confirmed the current U.S. and South Carolina flags flying over Sea Pines Circle will be replaced with a single oversized Shibumi Shade.
