HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC — Local resident Jennifer Malloy achieved a rare milestone this week, completing her 10,000th lap around Highway 278 while shuttling children between swim lessons at the Island Rec Center and tennis practices in Sea Pines.

“It’s not about the miles, it’s about the memories,” Malloy said, marking the achievement with a celebratory photo in front of her Honda Pilot. “I’ve spent so much time on 278 I could probably merge with my eyes closed. And sometimes I do.”

Fellow parents confirmed the drive is a rite of passage. “We live in Indigo Run, but somehow I’m always late to something in Sea Pines,” said neighbor Susan Whitaker. “My Waze history is just a solid oval.”

Town officials noted Malloy’s milestone was equivalent to circling the globe three times, or driving to Bluffton and back roughly infinity times.

At press time, Malloy was reportedly embarking on her 10,001st lap after receiving a text that her youngest forgot his violin.
