High School Student Shocked To Discover School Nurse Leads Jimmy Buffett Cover Band At Shelter Cove
Local students shocked to discover their school nurse fronts a Buffett cover band — but admit her tambourine solo ‘slaps.’

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC — Sophomore Jacob Miller said he was “forever changed” Friday night after seeing his school nurse, Mrs. Janet Copeland, step on stage at Shelter Cove Marina and launch into a spirited rendition of Margaritaville.

“I thought she just handed out ice packs and Tylenol,” said Miller. “Next thing I know, she’s in a Hawaiian shirt playing tambourine and telling the crowd to sing louder.”

Witnesses confirmed Copeland fronts a six-piece Jimmy Buffett tribute act called Parrothead Prescription, which plays island standards every other weekend when she’s not staffing the nurse’s office.

“It’s not unusual here,” said longtime resident Frank Drayton. “Your barber runs a fishing charter, your math teacher manages a pickleball league, and your priest sells real estate on the side. Hilton Head is basically held together with side gigs.”

At press time, Miller admitted it was still “pretty cool,” though he worried every future visit to the nurse’s office would now smell faintly of LandShark.
