About this site

The Oyster Roast is Hilton Head’s least reliable news source — a satire site dedicated to the island’s quirks, clichés, and coleslaw.

This is also a bit of an experiment: every post begins with a human observation about life on Hilton Head, and then AI runs with it — exaggerating the tropes, poking at the humor, and inventing officials you’ve never heard of.

This is also a bit of an experiment: every post begins with a human observation about life on Hilton Head and the Lowcountry, and then AI runs with it — exaggerating the tropes, poking at the humor, and inventing officials you’ve never heard of.

The result is part local in-joke, part outsider’s mirror, and all satire. Think of it as Hilton Head, but slightly more absurd (and maybe more accurate).

We’re inspired by the way hyperlocal blogs like Marin Lately capture the feel of a place — but here, the voice is filtered through Hilton Head’s unique tropes: roundabouts, HOA manuals, Shibumi invasions, and our collective habit of pretending we got here first.

If it feels like the island is being described by a neighbor who’s lived here forever and a robot who’s never been here at all — that’s the point.

See you on the bike paths, Hilton Head.
